Adjustments

The adjustment is a safe, natural, non-invasive used by the chiropractor to restore and improve health. Learning the art of adjusting is a skill that requires years of study and practice. Chiropractic doctors are the only professionals trained to deliver the chiropractic adjustment.

What is the spinal adjustment?

In basic terms, the spinal adjustment or spinal manipulation refers to the process in which the doctor of chiropractic applies skilled technique into one or more "subluxated" bones in the spine. The adjustment is frequently used to normalize the sacroiliac joint. The adjustment is usually delivered by using the hands or by the use of a specialized mechanical tool.

When should a spinal adjustment be given?

Spinal adjustments are given to certain vertebrea of the spine which are no longer in their proper positions or where functioning has become impaired. Vertebrea which lose their normal positioning or proper motion are called vertebral subluxation. The chiropractor uses a number of tests and procedures to determine which, if any, vertebrea are subluxated. If subluxations are found, immediate correction is generally indicated. Like cavities, subluxations are not always painfull during the initial stages, even those who are not experiencing neck or back pain should receive periodic spinal check-ups.

What do spinal adjustments do?

Adjustments help correct vertebral subluxations. Correcting subluxations reduce inflammation and subsequent pain that may arise as a result. The spinal adjustment also helps reduce muscle spasms and tension, normalizes spinal biomechanics and more importantly, can remove nerve interference which can improve overall health and wellness of the individual. Chiropractic adjustments are the only way to remove vertebral subluxations and only the chiropractor is trained to detect subluxations and deliver the adjustment to correct the subluxation.

What is an extremity adjustment?

In addition to adjusting the spine and pelvis, the other joints in the body can be adjusted by the chiropractor as well. This includes the joints of the hands and feet, wrists and ankles, elbows and knees, shoulders and hips, ribs and the jaw.

Like the joints in the spine, joints in the extremities can also become misaligned and fixated. Chiropractic adjustments can restore and enhance joint functioning and keep wear and tear to a minimum.
